Organizers led by Domingo Hornilla Jr. of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. said the presence of the First Lady in the opening ceremony would greatly contribute to the success of the film festival and other cultural activities in the United States. According to Hornilla, the attendance of the First Lady showed her sincere concern to promote Philippine cinema and culture in the U.S. Hornila said they hope to surpass the success of 1st New York Filipino Film Festival in 1998, which lasted for 21 days and featured 21 quality Filipino films. The quality Filipino films to be featured during the 12-day festival are "Jose Rizal," "Bata-Bata Paano Ka Ginawa?" "Bulaklak ng Maynila," "Saranggola," "Hubad sa Ilalim ng Buwan," "Gangland," "Kriminal ng Baryo Concepcion," "Sidhi," "Milagros," "Pila Balde," "Babae sa Bubong na Lata," the 1961 "Moises Padilla Story," and the 1955 "Sandra Wong." "Hubad sa Ilalim ng Buwan," which starred Klaudia Koronel, Joel Torre and Elizabeth Oropesa, was premiered during the gala night. Other organizers of the New York Filipino Film Festival are the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Consulate General of the Philippines and the Philippine Independence Day Committee 2000. Lincoln Center, located along West 65th St. here, is the site of the annual prestigious New York Film Festival. (SNS)
