BASTA PINOY! NEWS ENTERTAINMENT REVIEW

DAISY REYES: Endless Beauty, Lasting Talent

Daisy Reyes first hugged the limelight when she placed second runner-up to Maricel Morales in the 1995 Mutya ng Pilipinas pageant. She was also voted Miss Photogenic by the press photographers and went on to be the only one who made a place among the five winners in the international arena.

She became third runner-up in an international beauty pageant held in South America, while Ms. Morales only went on to become Miss Photogenic and a semifinalist in the Miss Asia-Pacific Quest.

In 1996, Daisy joined Binibining Pilipinas and was proclaimed Bb. Pilipinas-World. She was proclaimed Miss Personality in the Miss World contest held in India. Movie offers came to her lap even before her reign ended.

After bequeathing her title, the indefatigable Lolit Solis managed her career and went to become leading lady or co-star to the biggest names in the movie industry: Rudy Fernandez, Bong Revilla and Rosanna Roces, among others.

What is it in Daisy Reyes that most action stars found very irresistible? Is it because of her stature as a beauty queen or is it because of her natural charm that attracts the opposite sex? Whatever that is, there's something about Daisy that people find out nice to be with her. She's easy to get along with (at hindi plastik like most movie stars are), down to earth and simply charming.

She plays a loving yet jealous wife to Rudy Fernandez in Millennium Cinema's third offering, "Palaban," which actually is her second movie with the action star. The first one was in "Birador" in 1998.

"It's a good role that's why I accepted it," Daisy says of her character who starts as a martyr but ends up a nagger when she learns of Daboy's extra-marital affairs with Ara Mina. Daisy does not have any love scenes with Rudy in this movie, unlike in "Birador."

"We already did love scenes in `Birador' kaya inisip naming huwag na lang sa pelikulang ito. I let Ara do all the love scenes since it's her first time with Daboy. I'm contented with my role at iniiwasan ko rin namang magkaroon ng love scene sa pelikula," says Daisy.

Is it because of her cager-boyfriend? She replies only with a meaningful smile. The beauty queen-actress has turned down so many offers to do bold movies in the past. No regrets, she says, because she wants to give her career a new boost without taking off her clothes onscreen.

"Nasubukan ko na ang mag-sexy sa pelikula and I did it para lang magkaingay ang career ko. Tama na `yung ilang beses because I want to prove naman na kaya kong umarte even without doing bold roles. Iba na rin kasi ang pagbu-bold last year, `di ba? As in, kita dapat lahat kaya huwag na lang. I just let others did it. Ako, okay na ako sa mga simple roles," she says. (SNS)
