STAR: MARICAR FERNANDEZ

Reluctant Star

Nov 2002 -- Hot new nymphet Aleck Bovick has a new rival: equally-pretty newcomer Maricar Fernandez. They pit against each other in the movie "Masarap na Pugad" under Angora Films.

Not only do they share the same (leading) man, Gary Estrada, in the movie, the competition is who between them can act better, and who can charm the audience more.

While Aleck now has the edge (she has a regular TV drama), and had been launched as a lead star in her previous movie, "Tampisaw," some say that only a few more steps and Maricar can snag the lead.

Aleck is, no doubt, a hot property now and given the proper build up (good roles, good director, better publicity), by her mother studio, she really can go a long way.
She has no qualms about undressing on screen and she has likewise shown depth in her acting, and with a good attitude towards her profession, she is the next hottest sensation after Rosanna Roces, Joyce Jimenez, Ara Mina and Assunta de Rossi.

But can Maricar be far behind? A former Talent Center star, the Gretchen Barretto look-alike can give every bold star a run for her money. "She's a reluctant bold star," says film director Jun Posadas.

"She trembles in her kissing scenes with Gary (Estrada), and in her bed scene, she tries hard to cover herself from the camera so as not to expose her breasts. Maybe, a little persuasion will do, but if she only drops all her inhibitions, Maricar will also be a big star." (MNS)
