STAR: MICHELLE ESTEVEZ

As pretty as a doll

MANILA, May 1 (Mabuhay) -- This sexy comedienne is as pretty
as a doll and still goes for stuffed toys. Easy, tiger.

"Omit flowers." Bright-eyed 18-year-old actress swears by
this common notice in obituaries. Instead of fragrant and
expensive blooms, admirers would be better served by stuffed
toys.

You know, those girly items of bogus taxidermy that give the
female of our species the illusion that animals are cute and
cuddly and don't bite.

Girlish Michelle Estevez may look as graceful - and vulnerable - as a lost gazelle, but predators, er, suitors better not think she's an easy prey. A man after her heart must have
tons of patience.

For starters, she never goes on a date without a chaperone,
usually her best friend or a cousin. And then, of course, he will
have to pass muster with her mother, who has every right to be
protective because she raised Michelle by her lonesome.

Michelle's mom was a showband singer in Olongapo where she
fell for Michelle's dad, a German-American gent with the US Navy
who upped and left shortly after Michelle was born.

Somehow, her mom's showbiz inclinations guided Michelle toward a

career in lights. She was in her early teens when she became a regular on "Wow Na Wow," a gag show on Channel 13 helmed
by Edgar Mortiz and Al Tantay.

She joined the Calendar Girl contest on MTB in 1999 and became Miss November. She won 2nd runner-up in the grand finals and made such impression on the ABS-CBN powers that be that she alone was signed to a contract by ABS-CBN's Talent Center.

What followed are recurring roles in such sitcoms as "Home Along Da Riles," "Richard Loves Lucy" and "Oki Doki Doc."

Last year, she earned her first mainstay status in "Eto Na Ang Susunod Na Kabanata," but the show lasted a mere seven months.

Nevertheless, Michelle turned many heads as Apples, the simple-minded and luckless bold star whose every movie flopped.

Her luck is certain to change this year, with a new TV show or two this summer. A yet-untitled "sexy project" with two other ABS-CBN actresses is bound to raise her profile like never before. (MNS)
