STAR: HANNA VILLAME

Aims to Please

For Hanna Villame, performing singing concerts in the United States is like honing her skills to get the quality that US singers are known for.

There are ten singing engagements awaiting Hanna in Florida and Georgia for the next two months, each will give her new perception on how she would perform before a Filipino American crowd.

"As I adjust myself to please the crowd, I am also educating myself to be flexible to meet their demands," she said believing that her audience are the most important element in a performance.

Since arriving in Canada and US in June, Hanna together with her show business performer father, Yoyoy Villame has been watching musical concerts, attending lectures on musical performances and reading materials on musical subjects as part of her "skills sharpening" program.

"Having started my singing career with a modest accomplishment so far, I now want to add more professionalism and finesse in my stage shows. This I can learn here in the US," she said.

Hanna left the Philippines with high spirit following the top rating that her single recording; "Ako ba o Siya" got in the country's song hits. "The song competed with Aiza Seguera for the number one spot" she said but lost out in Manila where Seguera is a favorite show business personality.

However, in the provinces especially in Baguio City and in Boracay in the Visayas, which she considered her bailiwick since her father, Yoyoy is a Waray, her single grossed better than the others did.

BMG Records had just released her album containing "Ako" and another song that also became popular the,"Masakit," another love song about a girl jilted by her lover.

The song is highly sentimental, and I sang it with an emotion, which corresponds with my true feeling," said the young singer still smarting from a recent break up with a boy friend.

She said her recent experience raised her resolve to become a better singer. "That's why I am travelling to educate myself, " she said.
Some fans likened Hanna's singing voice with that of Celine Dion while others perceived her to have the same style with Imelda Papin in the Philippines. "I like the way Celine sings and dance. In Imelda, I want to have her high voice," she said.

Hanna's priority now is build up her career, and helping her to achieve that is "Daddy Wowie" Roxas with whom she has an oral contract to be her manager. Hanna had Norma Japitana as manager but owing to the frequent busy schedule of the journalist being the Philippines' top entertainment writer, they parted ways.

Her message to would be singers: "Put the singing career in the priority list. Give it your full concentration and constantly improve your voice and yourself." (BASTA PINOY)
